Government day again

We were in Sacramento last week for "Government day...basically a quick schmooze fest. Attorney General Jerry Brown was this year's featured speaker (Schwarzenegger was last year's).

I tried to pin him down on the peripheral canal, but he wouldn't bite. He's a lot shorter than I remembered. Back in 1988, I interviewed him in Fresno when he was running for Democratic State party chair. My first politician. I was very nervous. But he showed up and had a streak of dirt on his nose, so I focused on that and fired away with my questions.

We took a company car and you have to gas them up at CFN stations...here's one we found using my Blackberry. It's in the middle of NOWHERE.

Our hotel was across the street from the old Governor's mansion. If I were governor, I'd totally live here! Well, maybe the daily tours would get kind of annoying...This is the office building on L and 10th streets where all the papers, including ours, used to have their Sacramento bureaus. I used to work on the 11th floor of this building. We, like many other California papers, shut ours down last year. Sad.

This is the K Street mall, right behind our old office building.
The Capitol! This is katty corner from the L Street office. Way cool.
We went to visit our Senator, Dean Florez, now the Senate Majority Leader. Majority Leader comes with its own office, apparently. VERY swank! Except he told us the Capitol curator won't let him move a stick of furniture, put anything on the walls or even photos of his family on the desks! Plus he has tours that come through when he's working.
Still, pretty dang swank!
Christine looks pretty comfy.
And then the drive home on I5.
