Valentines Day party

Had a few folks over for a VD potluck.

And I made a black forest cherry cake, which I haven't done in about 25 years! It turned out OK, but I remember it being more chockolatey...

Government day again

We were in Sacramento last week for "Government day...basically a quick schmooze fest. Attorney General Jerry Brown was this year's featured speaker (Schwarzenegger was last year's).

I tried to pin him down on the peripheral canal, but he wouldn't bite. He's a lot shorter than I remembered. Back in 1988, I interviewed him in Fresno when he was running for Democratic State party chair. My first politician. I was very nervous. But he showed up and had a streak of dirt on his nose, so I focused on that and fired away with my questions.

We took a company car and you have to gas them up at CFN stations...here's one we found using my Blackberry. It's in the middle of NOWHERE.

Our hotel was across the street from the old Governor's mansion. If I were governor, I'd totally live here! Well, maybe the daily tours would get kind of annoying...This is the office building on L and 10th streets where all the papers, including ours, used to have their Sacramento bureaus. I used to work on the 11th floor of this building. We, like many other California papers, shut ours down last year. Sad.

This is the K Street mall, right behind our old office building.
The Capitol! This is katty corner from the L Street office. Way cool.
We went to visit our Senator, Dean Florez, now the Senate Majority Leader. Majority Leader comes with its own office, apparently. VERY swank! Except he told us the Capitol curator won't let him move a stick of furniture, put anything on the walls or even photos of his family on the desks! Plus he has tours that come through when he's working.
Still, pretty dang swank!
Christine looks pretty comfy.
And then the drive home on I5.

There we were at Dagny's..

When a woman with a big giant head showed up...

There was Luigis, drinking, Ethels, drinking...Mexicali...um...

Buck wild

I don't know what buck wild would be, exactly...but I find it kind of scary. Add redneck girls to anything and it's downright disturbing.

Gotta love weather!

Especially when you're from Bakersfield where we have two kinds of weather, hot and foggy.

So the last week or so has been great with the rain, snow, brilliant blue skies then more rain...OK so we're easily impressed.
Here's Bear Mountain on a sunny day.
Stormy day!

Semi sunny day after just being stormy and about to storm again.

This is from my run the other day west of Stockdale Bridge...my camera phone didn't want to zoom so it's hard to see, but the white line in the distance is the coastal range actually covered in snow!
And this is on the same run (west of Stockdale bridge on the north side of the river) looking south toward teh Grapevine area.
